White PET

Introduction

Durable white polyester film for labels that must survive heat, solvents and frequent handling

White PET is the material to specify when paper and polypropylene will not last. The polyester film holds its shape through heat cycling, resists oils and cleaning solvents, and cannot be torn by hand. That makes it the standard choice for product rating labels, equipment markings and asset tags that must stay legible for the life of the product.

Characteristics

  • Heat Resistant: Service temperature from -20°C to +149°C, so labels stay readable on equipment that runs hot.
  • Solvent Resistant: The film and adhesive withstand oils, alcohols and cleaning chemicals without degrading or lifting.
  • Tear Proof: Polyester film cannot be torn by hand, unlike paper labels.
  • Dimensionally Stable: Does not shrink, curl or distort under heat cycling, so barcodes stay scannable.
  • Strong Adhesion: Permanent acrylic adhesive for metal, glass, painted housings and engineering plastics such as ABS and PC.
  • Print Compatibility: Top coated for thermal transfer using resin ribbon.

Printing and Durability

  • Print durability is different from material durability. The film can survive conditions the ink on it does not. Thermal transfer with a resin ribbon gives the most solvent and abrasion resistant print, while flexographic ink sits on the surface and solvents can remove it.

Substrate, surface condition, filling process, storage and service life vary from one application to the next, and they all affect how a label performs.
